Sweet Heart Cookies

These crispy, pink treats are inspired by our wonderful granddaughter, Theodosia! Like her, they are a sweet and lovely combination of Mexico and Canada. Grandma’s Brown Sugar Cookies, a traditional Canadian recipe, are filled with a tasty, Mexican guava fruit paste.

Instructions
  1. Make cookie dough as outlined in recipe, adding red/pink food colouring to achieve desired colour.
  2. Cut out 24 heart-shaped cookies. Cut a smaller heart out of each of 12 of the cookie hearts.
  3. Place approximately 1 teaspoon of fruit paste in the middle of each of the 12 solid hearts.
  4. Bake all 24 cookie pieces until lightly browned on the bottom and edges.
  5. While still warm, press the cut out cookies onto the whole cookies to let the fruit paste push through.
  6. When cool, brush with a little icing sugar. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes

These were very much enjoyed by our little sweetheart, Theo, and the rest of the family! Frankie supervised the photography!
